5th Grade Math

OBJECTIVE

WHAT SHOULD STUDENTS KNOW AND BE ABLE TO DO?

LESSON DESCRIPTION

WHICH ACTIVITIES AND STRATEGIES WILL HAVE THE GREATEST IMPACT ON LEARNING?

ASSESSMENT or ASSIGNMENT

HOW WILL STUDENTS DEMONSTRATE MASTERY?

MONDAY

9/12

Students will be able to solve problems where they are required to do two or more steps or use two or more operations.

Students will review finding the “Hidden Question”.  Teacher will remind them they sometimes must have to solve one question before solving what the question is asking?  They will also review key words showing them what operation to use and when it will be used when solving multi-step problems.

Students will work in pairs to find hidden questions and which operations to use in solving multi-step problems.  Teacher will walk around and ask questions and do observations to check for mastery.

TUESDAY

9/13

Students will review estimating sums and differences and adding and subtracting whole numbers and decimals.

Students will review what they have learned in Chapter 2 for a Chapter Test.  Students will be reminded why we estimate and the rounding rule.  Teacher will review subtracting across zeros and making sure you line up your decimals when you add and subtract decimals.

Students will answer questions in class over subject matter to check for their understanding.

WEDNESDAY

9/14

Students will complete a chapter test which covers estimating sums and differences and adding and subtracting whole numbers and decimals.

Students will need to use the rounding rule when doing estimation.  They will also need to make sure they check their subtraction with addition and line up decimals when they add and subtract decimals.

Students should be able to achieve at least a 70% mastery on the chapter test.

THURSDAY

9/15

Students will be able to look over problems they missed on the test and make corrections.

Teacher will talk about the test from yesterday and some of the types of questions missed.  She will then have students make corrections to the Chapter 2 Test.

After students make corrections they should improve their test scores.

FRIDAY

9/16

Students will be able to estimate to determine solutions to mathematical and real-world problems involving multiplication.

Students will be reminded why we estimate.  We will go over the rounding rule together in class.  Students will then learn to estimate the products.  The teacher will remind students how to multiply by problems ending in 0’s.

Students will work problems on the promethean board and the teacher will check for mastery.
