The Heart of Texas Council of Governments (HOTCOG) has created the HOT Connect committee for the broadband initiative which aims to understand better how residents, businesses, schools, healthcare providers, local governments, and community organizations experience internet connectivity across the Heart of Texas region. By combining community input with infrastructure data, demographics, asset mapping, and stakeholder engagement, HOTCOG will develop a Regional Digital Opportunity Plan to identify regional needs and position our communities for future broadband investments.

The first step in this effort is gathering information through a survey to collect as much data as possible to improve connectivity throughout Central Texas. While the primary focus is on rural areas, input from all communities is valuable. The district has officially listed a batch of surplus property for public online auction via René Bates Auctioneers.

Over time, various vehicles, machinery, and equipment across our facilities have reached the end of their useful life, become obsolete, or suffered damage beyond economical repair. These items have been stored where they are taking up room and continuing to rust and deteriorate.

The specific items currently listed for auction include:

Vehicles & Fleet: 3 School/Shuttle Buses, 1 Pickup Truck, 1 Light Duty Truck, and 1 All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV)

Grounds & Maintenance: 3 Mowers & Lawn Maintenance Units, 1 Lighting/Fixture Lot, and 2 Generators

Shop & Trade Equipment: 4 Welding Equipment Lots and 3 Tool & Shop-Related Item Lots

Liquidating these items through public auction allows the district to clear storage and maintenance space, prevent further weathering of unused assets, and return all recouped revenue directly to the district’s general operating fund.

All items are being auctioned in full compliance with state statutory requirements and local board policy governing the disposal of surplus public property.
